India’s Ministry of AYUSH signed with WHO late on Friday night in Geneva for the world’s first traditional system of medicine to be set up in Jamnagar, WHO Global Center. Its office is at the Institute of Ayurveda Education and Research (ITRA), Gujarat. The agreement was signed by Padmashree Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH and Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General, WHO.
Under the agreement, an investment of USD 250 million has been arranged for the Centre. The WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine (WHO GCTM) aims to establish AYUSH systems across the world. It is to be known that only last month, the Union Cabinet had approved the establishment of the Centre.
Center will play an important role in providing best healthcare to the world
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his message on the occasion of the signing of the agreement, said that he is happy to know that through various initiatives, our government has been successful in its endeavor to make preventive and curative health services affordable and accessible to all.
“The Global Center in Jamnagar, Gujarat will play a vital role in providing the best healthcare to the world. Its Bhoomi Pujan ceremony will be held on 21st April in Jamnagar in the presence of PM Modi.
